Young Joo Son, Ph.D.

Research Scientist, Building Science

The research at the Well Living Lab helps people understand how beneficial it is to have a high-quality indoor environment. Our findings will make real changes in indoor environmental quality, which improves occupant health, productivity, and well-being.

Young Joo Son, Ph.D., is a building scientist in the Well Living Lab. She earned her B.S. and M.S. in Interior Architecture and Built Environment from Yonsei University in South Korea and her Ph.D. in Building Performance and Diagnostics from Carnegie Mellon University. Her prior research experience identified the impact of indoor environmental quality on occupant satisfaction and comfort, focusing on thermal and lighting environments. She designed and conducted human subject experiments in laboratory and field settings and collected human physiological and psychological responses. Additionally, she was involved in building energy modeling and energy prediction projects.

Son has been published in peer-reviewed journals, has presented at seminars and professional meetings, and has assisted with teaching indoor environmental quality evaluation, data analysis, and database management.
