The Safer Inside microenvironment showcases products and technologies that, along with good at-home hygiene practices such as handwashing and disinfecting high-touch surfaces, are critical to limiting virus spread and serves as an effective component of an overall strategy to reduce transmission and illness.

This space applies ongoing learnings from the Well Living Lab’s COVID-19 & Beyond: Safe Indoor Environment research program, aimed at reducing transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, to the home. The findings from this study on airborne-, surface-, and behavior-based transmission can also be applied to seasonal respiratory illnesses, resulting in a healthier overall indoor environment.

Environmental measures, such as air purification systems that are appropriately matched to a room's size and enhanced filtration in an HVAC system, can help to reduce the spread of respiratory droplets and, consequently, the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses. Hard, non-porous surfaces allow for more thorough cleaning of high-touch areas while touchless appliances reduce the number of touchpoints in the home; both of these installations reduce the potential for virus transmission.
