Health Science Researcher

The Well Living Lab (WLL) is seeking a Health Researcher to conduct research on how the indoor environment impacts human health and well-being. They will be expected to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, technologists, operations staff, and academic and industry collaborators. As the WLL’s mission is centered around improving human health and well-being through innovative, science-based solutions that improve indoor environmental quality, the ideal candidate should be comfortable translating and applying discoveries for societal and business impact.

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Generate research ideas and proposals in collaboration with the larger WLL Team.

  • When possible, seek or help seek extramural funding to complete research studies or research and development projects.

  • Serve as scientific leader or co-leader of WLL research projects by directing the design, planning, and execution of protocols while collaborating daily with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, technologists, data scientists, and operations staff within the WLL.

  • Direct or help direct the design or selection, as well as the subsequent implementation, of tools/devices to appropriately capture health data.

  • Direct or help direct the collection, management, and analysis of data using advanced statistical methods.

  • Create or help create innovative concepts, methods, and products and generate intellectual property (IP) via research and development.

  • Prepare manuscripts, presentations, reports, and other documentation based on project observations. Assume major responsibility to advance the key goal of publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts in top-tier journals and presenting at major conferences prioritized by the WLL.

  • Actively collaborate with research organizations (Universities, Mayo Clinic, etc.) and industry partner companies (WLL Alliance Members) with relevant health science expertise.

  • Direct or help direct the integration of the WLL’s research into broader platforms and frameworks for research and development as well as innovation.

  • Stay updated on the literature in the rapidly evolving field of health science to help the WLL maintain a cutting-edge research plan and framework.

  • Actively promote WLL research via multiple media platforms.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Completion of a master’s degree in a health science-related field—biomedical engineering, physiology, epidemiology, behavioral science, etc. Possesses at least 2 years of experience post master’s completion conducting academic and/or industry research and/or research and development projects.

  • A research background and early track record of applying knowledge and skills towards advancing the science of the impact of the indoor environment on human health and well-being.

  • An understanding of research techniques and principles.

  • Early experience planning, executing, and/or reporting human research studies and/or completing the same tasks on research and development projects.

  • Experience and understanding of the IRB protocol writing and submission process.

  • Experience collecting, processing, and analyzing data; experience working with large datasets and statistical programming.

  • Some experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Demonstrated skills and experience developing and leading or co-leading research projects/teams. Organizational and project management skills to handle multiple concurrent projects.

  • A positive attitude, open mind, demonstrated flexibility/adaptability, and a desire to collaborate with and learn from the multidisciplinary team within the WLL as well as externally with our academic and industry collaborators.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of organizations and external audiences.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Completion of a doctoral degree in a health science-related field—biomedical engineering, physiology, epidemiology, behavioral science, etc. Possess significant experience completing academic and/or industry research and/or research and development projects.

  • Completion of at least 2 years of post-doctoral training and/or a similar duration of research experience in an academic and/or industry research laboratory is also preferred but not required.

  • An exceptional research background and track record of applying knowledge and skills towards advancing the science of the impact of the indoor environment on human health and well-being.

  • Deep understanding of research techniques and principles.

  • Experience planning, executing, and reporting human research studies and/or completing the same tasks on research and development projects.

  • Understanding of the IRB protocol writing and submission process.

  • Experience collecting, processing, and analyzing data; experience working with large datasets and statistical programming.

  • Experience in the grant writing process.

  • Demonstrated track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Strong skills and experience developing and leading research projects/teams. Proven organizational and project management skills to handle multiple concurrent projects.

  • A positive attitude, open mind, demonstrated flexibility/adaptability, and a desire to collaborate with and learn from the multidisciplinary team within the WLL as well as externally with our academic and industry collaborators.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of organizations and external audiences.

Compensation: 

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with prior experience.  A comprehensive benefits package is included for full-time employees.
