Chubb Joins Well Living Lab Alliance as First Insurance Provider to Support the Lab’s Mission to Promote Health and Wellness in Residential Environments

Leading insurance provider collaborates with Lab to promote indoor health and well-being for policyholders

ROCHESTER, MN – March 11, 2024 – The Well Living Lab announced that Chubb, one of the largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance companies, is the first insurance provider to join the Well Living Lab Alliance, a global network of organizations committed to improving human health and well-being in indoor environments.

Chubb will be collaborating with the Lab to leverage its research and data to educate and help the insurer’s clients create healthy living environments by utilizing more efficient and cleaner-running home systems. This could include, for example, collaborating to measure a client’s home air quality to select the right air purifiers and effective water filtration systems that will reduce sedimentation on pipes, lessening the chances for leaks and damage.

"We are proud to be the first P&C carrier to join the Well Living Lab Alliance, which demonstrates our commitment to look out for our clients in creating a safe and healthy home environment while being sustainable,” said Ana Robic, Division President, Chubb North America Personal Risk Services. “We are supportive of the Lab’s mission and scientific research to improve indoor spaces, so we all can experience health and well-being.”

The Lab, founded as a collaboration of Delos and Mayo Clinic, combines the expertise of building, health, and behavioral sciences to conduct human-subject studies in simulated and real-world settings. Since opening its facility adjacent to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in 2016, the Lab has conducted more than 30 peer-reviewed, published studies across a range of indoor environmental focuses.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, people spend 93%  of their time indoors, with a majority of it spent in the home. Improving the quality of a home’s indoor environment can influence nearly every aspect of people’s lives – from how well they sleep, to energy levels, mood, productivity, and beyond. With wellness driving many lifestyle choices for homeowners and their families, Chubb is taking an active role in helping to facilitate living environments that can support healthy lifestyles.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chubb into our corporate membership circle,” said Barbara Spurrier, Executive Director of the Well Living Lab. “Chubb’s participation in the Alliance and our research agenda presents an incredible opportunity for us to better understand, translate, and apply our discoveries to positively impact people’s health and well-being in their homes.”

As a Well Living Lab Alliance member, Chubb will join over two dozen other organizations committed to improving indoor environments, including Hines, IBM, Milliken, Panasonic, 3M, Ford Motor Company, KB Home, and Mitsubishi Electric, among others.
